Tax support for entrepreneurs

Last updated: 29/05/2026 (being updated)

  • HM Treasury is currently analysing responses to a call for evidence on tax support for entrepreneurs. The government will assess the range of options to improve the effectiveness, targeting, and impact of tax incentives to support companies in starting-up and scaling-up in the UK. The taxation of both the companies themselves and of founders and investors are being considered. Potential options under consideration include “rebalancing, for example, by amending existing schemes to provide more support elsewhere.”
  • The Call for Evidence sought views on the effectiveness of existing tax incentives, and the wider tax system, for business founders and scaling firms, and how the UK can better support these companies to start, scale and stay in the UK.
  • Timing: the call for evidence closed 28 February 2026.
